What Drugs are in Your System? Assessing Medications with Massage & Bodywork - 6 CE hours (Tuition $175)
This course focuses on pharmacology for massage therapy. Whether purchased over-the-counter, prescribed for a chronic condition, or utilized for an acute illness, the majority of Americans are on some pharmaceutical medication. Some drugs may have a significant effect on how massage works, and others will have little to no effect. Most medications will fall in between, that is, the effect will be small, but it will be enough that minor changes in how massage is applied will need to be made. Altering massage techniques will allow the massage therapist to better meet the goals of the session. Therapists will learn step-by-step techniques that will assist them in considering the drugs each client is taking and determining cautions, contraindications, effects on massage, and the best massage techniques to use with each client. The learned information will allow the therapist to truly individualize each massage session based on the client's medications.
