Our Nervous System Part 1: The Body’s Perceptual and Motor Base - 6 CE hours (Tuition $130.00) -- Our nervous system forms the basis by which we interact with our internal and external worlds. It records, organizes, recalls and integrates our experiences. It also underlies our level of consciousness, thought and integrated movement.
This class (part 1 of 2) will overview the structure and function of the nervous system and nervous tissue. We discern the central and peripheral aspects in presence and touch and how myelin and lymph can provide integration and ease. Incoming and outgoing nerve messages delineate our sensory awareness and motor response. We will consider somatic (volitional) and autonomic functions. These distinctions are helpful to the bodyworker as autonomic functions inform and shape somatic activity.
In part 2, a follow-up class, we will delve more deeply in presencing and balancing the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems.
This class is based largely on principles of Body-Mind Centering® and is aimed to help practitioners refine their somatic presence, manual applications and support somatic intelligence through skilled touch and movement. Participants learn to broaden and apply their touch and presence to the modalities and protocols they already use. Class is open to all levels of experience.
We begin class with simple qigong exercise and continue with demonstration, hands-on and experiential activities. Please wear comfortable, modest clothing.
